Stephen Legg Institute of Australian Geographers & The New Zealand Geographical Society Conference 2014

Stephen Legg

I am an historical geographer with particular interests in the history of environmental management. My focus is on the political and economic context for conservation in the 19th and 20th centuries - especially throughout Australia and New Zealand. Forestry, agriculture, pastoralism and mining have received my attention along with attitudes to nature and ideas about climate change. I focus on the policy process and the role of major institutions - parliament, press, specialist lobbies e.g. industry groups in political agitation and policy formation. I look forward to meeting fellow environmental historians and historical geographers.
